About Tihu College
Tihu College has been one of the premier institutions of higher education in Assam. Having trodden 56 odd years of spreading illumination in society, the college has celebrated its Golden Jubilee in March, 2013 last. Tihu College was established on a very auspicious day, July 04,1963, fulfilling the dream of acquiring quality higher education for the people, inculcated by a group of illustrious personalities with support from the rural masses of greater Tihu area. Under the dynamic leadership with relentless and untiring efforts of Late Sailendra Prasad Medhi, the founder Principal of the College, it grew into one of the premier rural institutions imparting education right from HS to TDC level. The College has come across a long way with more than five decades of eventful history behind it catering to the needs of the students opting for higher education in the greater Tihu, Namati, Baksa, Khetri and Dharmapur areas of Nalbari, Baksa and Barpeta districts of Assam. Even after the emergence of almost a dozen of colleges in the same hinterland, Tihu College still continues its rich intellectual heritage and academic ethos.
Beginning with the Arts stream (in night shift) in the year of its inception, the College was first housed in the Tihu Gandhi Bhawan. It was affiliated to the Gauhati University in 1963 itself and subsequently shifted to the present site on 15th of August, 1966 and was brought under Deficit grants-in-aid system by the Govt. of Assam in 1969. Since then the College has been showing the marks of progress in all respects to the satisfaction of the students and guardians along with the elite education-enthusiasts of this vast area. The serene beauty and eco-friendly campus of the College with calm green surroundings is conducive to the pursuit of academic activities.
Over the years, Tihu College has burgeoned, from its nascent stage, to a centre of quality education, nurturing simultaneously both scholastic and non-scholastic curricular endeavours. The long fifty-Six years of the College's existence have been filled with a brilliant record of academic performance in the examinations conducted by the G.U. & AHSEC, accompanied by numerous extra-curricular achievements every year.
With the full-fledged streams of Arts and Science and Major course in all the teaching departments, Tihu College continues to add new feathers in its cap so far as its academic excellence is concerned. Besides, the College has already introduced self-financed courses in the Commerce Stream in the undergraduate levels from the academic session 2015-16, with provision of Major Courses in Accountancy and Management. As such, the College has emerged as a academic institution. In view of the current demand and changing scenario, the College has introduced full-fledged three stream such professional and career-oriented courses like Three Year BCA and One Year PGDCA courses. Since 2011-12, Tihu College has been successfully implementing the semester system in undergraduate levels introduced by Gauhati University. From the current academic session onward, the College is gearing up for implementing the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in the Undergraduate levels. Moreover, regular Post-Graduate courses under Gauhati University, in Education and History, with an initial intake capacity of 20 students each, have been introduced from the academic session, 2017-18. The current session will be marked by a few well equipped Digital Classrooms, two multi-media rooms with necessary audio-visual amenities, and an IT Lab. to ensure fruitful teaching -learning activities.
The aim of all educational programmes at Tihu College is to foster a spirit of academic excellence, to encourage critical thinking, create innovative ways to broaden horizons and discover the liberating power of new ideas and insights. It is, however, a delight to declare that apart from the academic progress the college is moving ahead with the objectives of the fullest exploration of inherernt talents of the students in extra curricular arena. The College has a glorious history of organizing the G.U. Inter- College Football Tournament in 1987. In 2017 last, in October, the College successfully organized the G.U. Inter-College Zonal Youth Festival. Tihu College welcomes and entertains the blooming talents with due weightage in admission process and strives to provide all possible infrastructural facilities. There are well qualified, dedicated teachers in each department. It is noteworthy to mention that the College is the first to get assessed within the Nalbari district by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore in 2004 and was accredited 'B+' grade. The College was accredited for the second time with B+ Grade by the NAAC in the academic session 2016-17. It vows to attain further progress and run ahead in the days to come with the tireless efforts and zeal of the teachers, the students, the guardians, the alumni, the society and all related stakeholders at large.

How does Tihu College Merit List 2022 is Prepared?
Based on various factors, such as marks in the qualifying examination, number of seat availability and number of applicants, the official admissions authority of the college prepares and publishes the merit list of Tihu College. The preparation of merit list for admission to UG courses is based on marks in the Higher Secondary (Class 12th) examination. The college does not conduct any entrance examination for admission.
