- Shri Arvind Ghosh was born on 15 August 1872 in Calcutta.
- His father Krishnadhan Ghosh was very enthusiastic about his education and he sent Arvind to London to pursue higher education.
- His mother's name was Swarnalata Devi. Aurobindo was a very good student in studies and also knew how to speak English very well.
- Once he sat and passed the Indian Civil Service (used to be in London) examination, however could not be selected as he refused to take the riding examination which was a compulsory examination.
