Students can find below a paragraph of Chhath Puja in 300-500 words or essay on Chhath Puja in 300 words:

Introduction

Festivals are the reasons to smile again, to have some shopping, some change in our wardrobe, some change in our drawing-room, etc. Festivals bring a lot of work as well as joy together. We celebrate different festivals in the entire year. Similarly, there is a festival naming Chhath puja and it is celebrated on the 6th day after Diwali.

What is Chhath Puja?

It is a festival that is specially celebrated in northeast India in the states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, some parts of Assam, West Bengal, etc. Nowadays people move to different states for livelihood as a result it can be seen in the entire nation. Even North Indians living abroad also celebrate this puja.

In this puja, people pray Lord Sun to impress his sister Chhath Mata. They keep fast for 3 days and offer prayers. They worship the rising sun as well as the setting sun every day and celebrate this festival.

Chhath Puja is My Favourite Festival

I love this festival very much because every year we visit our native place where my grandparents live, my cousins also visit them to take part in this occasion. My grandmother, aunt, and my mother every year keep fast for 3 days and it does not look as if they are hungry.

They sing traditional devotional songs, make maha prasad and we also help them, by arranging mango wood sticks for preparing the maha prasad. The maha prasad is cooked separately on a handmade stove. We enjoy three days, we are actually free these days to do anything, I play with my cousins and we visit Ghats to offer prayer with other ladies. Really it is an amazing experience and I wait for this festival every year.

Stories behind Celebrating Chhath Puja

There are many stories behind celebrating this occasion; I have mentioned some of them below;

  • It is a belief that when the Pandavas lost everything, it was Draupadi who performed this fast and was blessed with everything.
  • The Surya Putra Karna also use to offer prayers to Lord Surya and as a result, he learned those useful lessons.
  • Ramji and Sita Ji also kept fast for 3 days and prayed Chhath Mata when they returned from exile.
  • There was a King whose name was Priyavrat and he was very disappointed because he had no kids. Then, it was Maharshi who performed a Yagya and asked the king to give the Yagya's kheer to his wife. Her wife ate that but when they had their child, it was born dead. The king got totally disappointed, when he visited the crematorium for the last ride of his son, he also wanted to kill himself. Suddenly a woman came, she was Devsena also known as Shasti or Chhati, and asked the king to pray Chhath Mata, instead of killing himself. He just thought to give the last chance. Soon he was blessed with a boy and was really happy in his life.

Why People Pray Chhath Mata?

Chhath Mata blesses people with prosperity, money, children, everything. She fulfills all of our wishes and blesses her devotees. People have a very strong belief, that’s why every year they celebrate this occasion very sincerely. She fills our life with joy and happiness which all of us love.

When people see others happy after performing this puja, they also wish to celebrate this occasion from the next year and this is another reason why it is getting so popular these days.

Conclusion

Our festivals are based on some historical events and they matter a lot for us. We pray to different Gods and Goddesses and wish for our betterment and celebrate an occasion. Chhath puja is also one of the most traditional festivals of north India and the new generation should really learn the rituals and follow our traditions.

FAQs on Paragraph on Chhath Puja in English

Few Lines on Importance of Chhath Puja??

Chhath is an ancient Hindu festival historically native to Nepalis and Biharis of the Indian subcontinent, more specifically, the Indian state of Bihar along with West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and the southern parts of Nepal. It has become popular with the Nepali hilly community in the recent years, thanks to the influence of southern Nepalis. Prayers during Chhath puja are dedicated to the solar deity, Surya, to show gratitude and thankfulness for bestowing the bounties of life on earth and to request that certain wishes be granted.

Chhathi Maiya, also called Ranbay Maay in Mithila, is the sixth form of Devi Parvati and Lord Surya's Sister is worshipped as the Goddess of the festival. It is celebrated six days after Kali Puja, on the sixth day of the lunar month of Kartika (October–November) in the Hindu calendar Vikram Samvat. The rituals are observed over four days. They include holy bathing, fasting and abstaining from drinking water (vrata), standing in water, and offering prasad (prayer offerings) and arghya to the setting and rising sun. Some devotees also perform a prostration march as they head for the river banks.

Environmentalists have claimed that the festival of Chhath is one of the most eco-friendly religious festivals in the World. All devotees prepare similar prasada (religious food) and offerings. Although the festival is observed most widely in the Madhesh (southern) region of Nepal and the Indian states of Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, it is also prevalent in areas where the diaspora and migrants from those areas have a presence. It is celebrated in all northern regions and major north Indian urban centers like Delhi . Hundreds of thousands of people celebrate it in Mumbai.
