India’s independence struggle was a historic movement to bring a beautiful future to this wonderfully diverse and rich continent. India was under the British Raj for a very long period, and the Indians had no freedom of their own. The people of India believed in superstitions which made lives miserable at times. Therefore, the freedom fighters of our country decided to take a step ahead and move on with a struggling life and get done with the British Raj. Many freedom fighters came in and joined hands together to fight against injustice and free the country with pride. Some fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Bhagat Singh, etc., are the popularly known faces of the free India movement. Still, other heroes have sacrificed their today for a beautiful tomorrow along with these faces. Some heroes are Birsa Munda, Kamala Das, Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay, Khudiram Bose, etc. In some way or the other, these people have made enormous contributions toward the country’s freedom.

Freedom is necessary for the existence of every living being on this earth. The life of a bird is meant to fly but if we place it in a cage it will be called the restriction of the freedom of the bird. In the same way, human beings require freedom to give their best in their life. If we talk of the past of India before independence the condition of the people was the same as that of a bird in the cage. The people of the nation were leading the life of slavery under the Britishers. The freedom struggle involving several movements, protects, arguments, etc from 1857 to 1947 resulted in making India a free nation.

Important Events Of The Freedom Struggle

The entire freedom struggle for independence was a long battle and difficult time for the people of the nation. A big salute to the courage of the freedom fighters and never losing hope of the Indians that resulted in making India a free nation on 15th August 1947.

  • The Revolt of 1857 was the starting of the freedom struggle of independence. This was the first time that the people of India broke the silence and had raised their voices against the Britishers. This resulted in the end of the rule of East India Company in the nation and it came into the hands of the British crown.
  • The formation of the Indian National Congress took place in the year 1885 by A.O. Hume. This was an important step in the freedom struggle of Independence.
  • The Champaran Satyagraha was initiated by Mahatma Gandhi in the year 1917. The farmers of Champaran protested silently for not forcing them to grow indigo in their fields.
  • Jallianwala Bagh Massacre that took place in the year 1919 is stated as one of the most brutal movements in the history of India. People had gathered in large numbers to celebrate the festival of Baisakhi in Amritsar. The order by General Dyer to open fire on the mob resulted in killing more than 350 people in the incident. This incident gave speed to the freedom struggle for independence.
  • The Non-Cooperation movement in 1920, Dandi March in 1930, formation of Azad Hind Fauj or Indian National Army by Subhash Chandra Bose in Japan to fight against the Britishers, Quit India Movement in 1942 were some of the most important events in the freedom struggle of India. There were many freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Chandrasekhar Azad, Sukhdev, Rajguru, etc who had died at a very young age while fighting for the freedom of the nation. The contribution of our great leaders likes Subhash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, Rani Lakshmibai, Asfaqulla Khan, Jawaharlal Nehru, etc and the people of India finally resulted in making India an independent nation on 15th of August in the year 1947.

We are living day by day because of these freedom fighters. Our country is free for all these freedom fighters. Also, We should all time respect these freedom fighters. And we will never forget their contribution. Also, These freedom fighters have faced many bad things. We have got freedom for these freedom fighters. They give us freedom in exchange for blood. We will never forget these freedom fighters. They are a time in our hearts.

Hind Swaraj

The word swaraj came at the time of the Indian freedom struggle. Mahatma Gandhi wrote a short book name Hind Swaraj. Mahatma Gandhi founded hind Swaraj first in the newspaper. He was mainly the editor of the newspaper. In the year 1909, it is shaping into a book. It was a book of about 80 pages.

This was our First War of Independence. iakshmi Boi the Rani of Jhansi, Tantia Tope, A/ana Sahib and Bahadur Shah Zafar were its main leaders.

Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal Emperor, was declared the emperor of Hindustan. Jhansi, Gwalior, Kahpur, Meerut and Delhi were the main centers of this rising. All the leaders fought bravely. The Rani of Jhansi, Lakshmi Bai, dressed as soldier and led her forces against the British. She fought bravely and died for the freedom of the motherland. Nana Sahib was also killed while fighting against the British forces. Bahadur Shah Zafar was taken prisoner and was sent to Rangoon in Burma, where he died an unsung death. The British were able to put down this rising.

The British, however learnt a lesson. The Government of India came under the British Crown. The Company rule was gone. Queen Victoria was the ruler of England at that time. The British Government promised to rule India with justice but they continued the policy of discrimination. Very few Indians were given high posts.
