'The School Boy' is a typical example of Blake's 'Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience' in its theme and imagery. It deals with childhood and the subjugation of one's soul and uses imagery from the natural world. Although it was first published as one of the 'Songs of the Innocent' in 1789, Blake moved it to the 'Experience' section of the 1794 edition, probably because the speaker was about childhood experiences from a child's point of view. I am writing in retrospect.

In the first stanza of the poem, the poet gives us the pastoral image of the innocence of nature. We see that it is extremely frustrating to go to school on a nice summer morning when the speaker really wants to enjoy the heat. He is exhausted and puzzled even under the strict supervision of his teacher. The word 'brutal eye outworn' refers to the teacher's despotic eyes which really tired the boy. Instead of enjoying the pleasures of the summer season, the child must attend the school where he spends his money. Days in boredom and despair.

Naturally, in such a set-up, the child experiences exhaustion. He sinks into the sea of exhaustion. The child resists the attack on him by the oppressive personality of the teacher and unnecessary words of instruction are thrown out by the teacher without trying to understand the child's intention or his urge for uncontrolled freedom. Learning bower refers to a garden where the child can be taught in an interesting way, if nature accompanies him instead of the school teacher.

A bird that is happy and cheerful from birth can never sing a sweet song when it is locked in a cage. Similarly, a child, if restrained under the umbrella of his teacher's annoying fear, tension and doubt, can never enjoy the natural instincts of joy and playfulness. A world full of rigid courses of discipline will ruthlessly snatch away the beautiful spring of a person's life - the days of childhood.

Stanzas V and VI are urged to realize the plight of the child from the alternative authority of the parent and the dangers in this suppression of natural learning. The boy complains to the supreme authority - father and mother - to argue that summer can never be blissful if sorrow fades away tender plants, beautiful buds and newborn buds. In other words, the speaker shows that a budding child is swept away in an ocean of misery at an early stage of life, where there is no one to take care of. Its condition is compared to a damaged nature with no fruit and no crop. If care and concern reign over plants, flowers, birds, then such a summer will be dry and will not bear fruit.

The child asks his parents how they can win back what grief has destroyed. If the plants wither because of the canker of mourning, there will be no fruit in the autumn season - the sweet years of one's life. This implies that if the pleasures and pleasures of childhood are censored and cut off, then adult life is in danger of becoming completely dry and unproductive. Old age will be painful.

All these concerns are expressed through rhetorical questions, which have already been answered by the tone of the poem which gives the reader a final note of the school child's impossible situation.
