प्रेम अपने माता-पिता के साथ बांदीपुर जंगल के पास एक छोटे से गांव में रहता था। उसे रोज शाम को जंगल में घूमने की अच्छी आदत थी। उसकी अनेक पशु-पक्षियों से मित्रता हो गई थी। एक दिन वह उदास देखकर स्कूल से लौटा। उसने अपनी माँ से कहा कि उसने सुना है कि जंगल में कई पेड़ काट दिए जाएंगे और उसे जंगल में जानवरों और पक्षियों की चिंता है।

उसकी माँ ने उसे कारण जानने के लिए अपने मित्र नसरीन के साथ जंगल में जाने को कहा। प्रेम और नसरीन दोनों जंगल में अपने पसंदीदा स्थान पर गए और एक चट्टान पर बैठ गए। हीरा, हिरण दौड़ता हुआ उनके पास आया। नसरीन ने प्रेम से पूछा कि हिरण उदास क्यों दिख रहा है। प्रेम ने उत्तर दिया कि हिरण-हो सकता है कि उसने सुना हो कि जंगल के पेड़ जल्द ही काट दिए जाएंगे। दोनों वहीं बैठ गए और जानवरों की चिंता करने लगे।

 

तब प्रेम ने नसरीन से आपस में चर्चा करने को कहा कि वे पेड़ों को काटे जाने से कैसे रोक सकते हैं। नासीन ने सुझाव दिया कि वे इसे रोकने के लिए संबंधित अधिकारियों से संपर्क कर सकते हैं।

दोनों खुश हुए और प्रेम घर लौट आए। प्रेम ने अपनी मां को अपनी योजना के बारे में बताया और उसे यह बताने के लिए कहा कि उन्हें शिकायत किससे करनी चाहिए। प्रेम की मां ने उन्हें ग्रामसभा के अध्यक्ष से शिकायत करने के लिए कहा। बाद में प्रेम ने ग्राम सभा अध्यक्ष को एक शिकायत लिखी और अपने माता-पिता और दोस्तों से पत्र पर हस्ताक्षर करने का अनुरोध किया और इसे ग्राम सभा कार्यालय भेज दिया।

 

ग्राम सभा की अध्यक्ष श्रीमती रुक्मिणी रमैया ने पत्र का उत्तर दिया। राष्ट्रपति ने प्रेम को यह सूचित करने के लिए लिखा था कि वे प्रकृति के प्रति उनके प्रेम से खुश हैं और उनका अनुरोध स्वीकार कर लिया गया है। उन्होंने पेड़ों को नहीं काटने का फैसला किया था और पेड़, जानवर और पक्षी अब सुरक्षित रहेंगे। बाद में उस शाम प्रेम ने पूरे गांव को खुशखबरी सुनाई।

Prem lived with his parents in a small village near Bandipur forest. He had a good habit of walking in the forest every evening. He became friends with many animals and birds. One day he returned from school looking sad. He told his mother that he had heard that many trees would be cut down in the forest and that he was concerned about the animals and birds in the forest.

His mother asked him to go to the forest with his friend Nasreen to find out the reason. Both Prem and Nasreen went to their favorite place in the forest and sat on a rock. Hira, the deer came running to him. Nasreen asks Prem why the deer is looking sad. Prem replied that the deer-maybe he had heard that the trees of the forest would soon be cut down. Both sat there and started worrying about the animals.

 

Prem then asks Nasreen to discuss among themselves how they can stop trees from being cut. Nasin suggested that they may approach the concerned authorities to stop this.

Both were happy and Prem returned home. Prem tells his mother about his plan and asks her to tell to whom they should complain. Prem's mother asked him to complain to the president of the Gram Sabha. Later Prem wrote a complaint to the gram sabha president requesting his parents and friends to sign the letter and send it to the gram sabha office.

 

The President of the Gram Sabha, Smt. Rukmini Ramaiah replied to the letter. The President wrote to Prem to inform that he was happy with his love for nature and that his request had been accepted. They had decided not to cut the trees and the trees, animals and birds would be safe now. Later that evening Prem narrated the good news to the entire village.
