पत्र में सुभाष चंद्र बोस ने 'देशबंधु' से अपना परिचय दिया, क्योंकि वह उनके लिए अजनबी है।

There is a letter written by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose to Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das, seeking advice from him on what he should do after leaving the Indian Civil Service, a government service job.

This letter has been written on 16 February 1921 on behalf of the Union, Society of Cambridge University.
In the letter, Subhas Chandra Bose introduces himself to 'Deshbandhu', as he is a stranger to them.

He introduces himself as the son of Shri Janakinath Bose who is a lawyer in Cuttack. His brother Shri Sarat Chandra Bose is a barrister of the Calcutta High Court. He had passed B.A. Exam with First Division.

He had reached Cambridge in October 1919, and passed the Civil Services Examination in August 1920 and secured second position. After introducing himself, Subhas Bose writes that he has no desire to join the government civil service. He decided to enter national work after leaving the civil service.

He assured Mr. Chittaranjan Das that he would have a lot of work to do, such as teaching at the National College founded by Mr. Das and writing and publishing books and newspapers, organizing village societies and educating the Indian public.

He requests Mr. Das to tell him what works, he will be assigned by Mr. Das in the great program of national service. He assured Shri Das of his youthful zeal to serve the nation. He is grateful for the Civil Services Examination as it has provided him with all-round education in Economics, Political Science, English, Law, Sanskrit and Geography.

He wants to leave the civil services by making concrete plans for his future course as he does not want to spend his time in aimless pursuits. He is eager to jump into the field of work as soon as possible.

He sent this letter to Mr. Das through a trusted friend, fearing censorship by the British administration and his correspondence in future would be through his trusted friend. Subhas Bose also writes that he had formulated some ideas regarding the Indian national movement. He believes that there should be a permanent meeting place, perhaps a home, and that a research group is needed to study various national problems.

The Publicity Department will publish these researches free of cost to the public in every provincial language. Apart from the pamphlet, a book on the policies of the organization should be published with each question and explanation in Rational Life.

Subhash concluded his letter by writing that such questions are not new to Mr. Das. He says at the end that he felt there was a lot of work to be done in the future through the movement. He wished that he could contribute to the movement in every way possible.
