दी गई कविता 'सहानुभूति' चार्ल्स मैके द्वारा लिखी गई है। (27 मार्च 1814-24 दिसम्बर 1889)। उनका जन्म स्कॉटलैंड के पर्थ में हुआ था। वह एक स्कॉटिश कवि, पत्रकार, लेखक, एंथोलॉजिस्ट और उपन्यासकार थे।

कवि एक घटना का वर्णन करता है जहां वह दुःख में पड़ा था और दुर्घटना से किसी चोट से बहुत उदास था। वह असहाय था और उसकी चोटों के लिए इलाज की जरूरत थी। जब वह वहाँ दु:ख में पड़ा था, एक अभिमानी व्यक्ति ने उसकी सहायता के लिए पुकार सुनी और उसकी सहायता करने के लिए रुक गया। कवि ने देखा कि वह आदमी 'ठंडा' था, वह चिढ़ गया क्योंकि उसे रुकना पड़ा और कवि की मदद करनी पड़ी।

उस आदमी ने कवि से दया से बात भी नहीं की और अपनी सहानुभूति व्यक्त की, लेकिन बिना कोई भाव दिखाए उसे सोना भेंट किया और अपने रास्ते चला गया। उन्होंने कवि से बात नहीं की और न ही उन्हें सांत्वना दी। कुछ समय बाद कवि अपने दुःख और संकट से उबर गया।

वह अभिमानी धनी व्यक्ति द्वारा दिए गए ऋण को चुकाना चाहता था। उसे चुकाने के बाद, कवि सिर ऊंचा करके खड़ा हो गया और उसे धन्यवाद दिया। अभिमानी धनी व्यक्ति के विपरीत, उसने उससे बात की और उसे उसके दान के लिए आशीर्वाद दिया।

एक अन्य घटना में कवि की भी ऐसी ही स्थिति थी। वह (मदद की) कमी और दर्द से तड़प रहा था। एक गरीब आदमी उसके पास से गुजर रहा था और वह कवि की मदद करने के लिए रुक गया। गरीब आदमी ने एक अच्छे सामरी की तरह अपने घायल सिर को एक पट्टी से बांध दिया और उसे एक ब्रांड दिया। गरीब आदमी ने दिन-रात उसकी देखभाल की और उसे वापस स्वास्थ्य के लिए पाला।

कवि आश्चर्य करता है कि वह उस गरीब आदमी को कैसे वापस करेगा जिसने उसकी मदद करने के लिए सभी कष्ट उठाए थे और उसे वापस स्वास्थ्य में लाया था। वह कहता है कि सोना महान है, यानी वह गरीब आदमी को पैसा दे सकता है लेकिन गरीब आदमी ने जो 'स्वर्गीय सहानुभूति' दी है, वह दुनिया के सभी सोने से कहीं अधिक है। वह 'सहानुभूति' अमूल्य है और इसके बदले में सोना या पैसा देना मूर्खता और अमानवीय होगा।

The given poem 'Sympathy' is written by Charles McKay. (27 March 1814-24 December 1889). He was born in Perth, Scotland. He was a Scottish poet, journalist, author, anthologist and novelist.

The poet narrates an incident where he lay in grief and was very depressed by an injury caused by an accident. He was helpless and needed treatment for his injuries. While he lay there in sorrow, a proud man heard his cry for help and stopped to help him. The poet saw that the man was 'cold', he got irritated as he had to stop and help the poet.

The man did not even speak kindly to the poet and expressed his sympathy, but without showing any emotion presented him gold and went on his way. He did not speak to the poet or console him. After some time the poet was overcome with his sorrow and distress.

He wanted to repay the loan given by the proud rich man. After repaying it, the poet stood with his head held high and thanked him. Unlike the arrogant rich man, he spoke to her and blessed her for her charity.

In another incident the poet had a similar situation. He was tormented by the lack of (help) and pain. A poor man was passing by and he stopped to help the poet. The poor man tied his wounded head with a bandage like a good Samaritan and gave him a brand. The poor man took care of her day and night and brought her back to health.

The poet wonders how he will return the poor man who had taken all the hardships to help him and bring him back to health. He says that gold is great, i.e. he can give money to the poor man but the 'heavenly sympathy' given by the poor man is more than all the gold in the world. That 'sympathy' is priceless and it would be foolish and inhuman to give gold or money in return.
