दूसरी कहानी ब्रह्मदत्त के बारे में है जो वारणावर्त नामक शहर में रहता था जब वह दूसरे गाँव में जाने की योजना बना रहा था, उसकी माँ ने उसे अकेले यात्रा न करने की सलाह दी। अंत में उसने कपूर के डिब्बे में रखा एक केकड़ा अपने साथ ले जाने के लिए दिया। थक जाने पर वह रुक गया और पेड़ के नीचे विश्राम करने लगा। कपूर की महक से पेड़ के खोखले से एक सांप निकला जो संदूक को निगल गया। केकड़ा बॉक्स से बाहर आया और सांप को मार डाला। जब ब्रह्मदत्त जागे तो उन्होंने जीवित केकड़े और मरे हुए सांप को देखा, उन्होंने महसूस किया कि केकड़े ने उन्हें बचा लिया है। इससे उसे पता चला कि उसने अपनी मां की बात मानकर उसे मौत से बचा लिया।

When Brahmadatta awoke he saw the living crab and the dead snake, he realized that the crab had saved him. From this he came to know that he saved her from death by obeying his mother.
