He was hesitant to try for a job because of his poor condition. Old Twinkle was not ready to interview the boys.
He asked them to play in the yard until he called them. Jack also went there to see who would get the job. All the boys saw a yard gate swinging here and there. They climbed to the gate and pretended to ride a horse. The old door could not bear the weight of the five boys. It broke on the hinges.
