एक और खरगोश ने उसे भागते हुए देखा और उससे पूछा कि वह डर कर क्यों भाग रहा है। भागते हुए खरगोश ने दूसरे खरगोश से बिना पीछे देखे भी उससे सवाल न करने को कहा। दूसरा खरगोश उसके पीछे दौड़ा और जोर देकर कहा कि वह उसे जवाब दे। भागते हुए खरगोश ने उत्तर दिया कि वह भाग रहा था क्योंकि पृथ्वी टुकड़े-टुकड़े हो रही थी।
सो दूसरा खरगोश भी उसके साथ हो गया, और जब वे दौड़ रहे थे, तब और हजार खरगोश भी उनके साथ हो गए, जब उन्होंने सुना कि पृय्वी के टुकड़े-टुकड़े हो रहे हैं। बाद में एक हिरण, एक सूअर, एक मृग, एक भैंस, एक चिकारा, एक गैंडा, एक बाघ और एक हाथी उनके साथ हो गए। जानवरों की कतार लगभग तीन मील तक फैली हुई थी।
बाद में एक शेर ने जानवरों की इस जंगली उड़ान को देखा और उनसे पूछा कि यह सब क्या है। जब उन्होंने उसे बताया कि पृथ्वी के टुकड़े-टुकड़े हो रहे हैं, तो शेर ने मन ही मन सोचा कि चूंकि कोई भूकंप नहीं आया था, इसलिए उन्होंने सुनी हुई किसी आवाज को गलत समझा होगा और भागने लगे। उसने उन्हें रोकने का फैसला किया क्योंकि उन्हें डर था कि वे सभी नष्ट हो जाएंगे।
शेर तेजी से सभी जानवरों के आगे पहाड़ी की तलहटी में उछला और अपनी आवाज के शीर्ष पर तीन बार दहाड़ता रहा। सभी जानवर डर गए और एक साथ छिप गए और खड़े हो गए।

फिर शेर ने अन्य जानवरों को वहीं रहने का आदेश दिया जहां वे थे और ताड़ के पेड़ के नीचे हरेक को ले गए। जगह का निरीक्षण करने के बाद शेर को पका हुआ बेल फल मिला जो ताड़ के पत्तों पर गिरकर गिर गया था। शेर को तब सब कुछ समझ में आ गया। उसने खरगोश को अपनी पीठ पर कूदने के लिए कहा, और वे अन्य जानवरों के पास वापस चले गए। 1 तब बुद्धिमान सिंह ने अन्य जानवरों से बात की और उन्हें आश्वासन दिया कि कोई भूकंप या कोई अन्य आपदा नहीं थी और उनके लिए अपने स्थान पर वापस जाना सुरक्षित था। सभी जानवरों ने शेर को धन्यवाद दिया और घर वापस चले गए।

The given text 'Earthquake' is a folk tale. The narrator tells us that this story takes place a long time ago, at a place near the western sea. Under a bael tree there lived a rabbit under a small palm tree. One day, a strange fear struck the rabbit. He wondered what would happen to the earth if it were torn to pieces. At that very moment, a large ripe fruit fell with a loud bang just above the palm bush. The hare was frightened and thought that the earth was definitely falling to pieces around him. He ran away like crazy.
Another rabbit saw him running and asked him why he was running in fear. The running rabbit asked the other rabbit not to question him even without looking back. The other rabbit ran after him and insisted that he answer him. The running rabbit replied that he was running because the earth was breaking into pieces.
So the second rabbit also joined him, and while they were running, a thousand more rabbits also joined them, when they heard that the earth was being torn to pieces. Later a deer, a boar, an antelope, a buffalo, a gazelle, a rhinoceros, a tiger and an elephant joined them. The line of animals stretched for about three miles.
Later a lion saw this wild flight of animals and asked them what it was all about. When they told him that the earth was breaking into pieces, the lion thought to himself that since there was no earthquake, he must have misunderstood any sound he had heard and started running. He decided to stop them as he was afraid that they would all perish.
The lion leapt swiftly to the foot of the hill ahead of all the animals and roared three times at the top of his voice. All the animals got scared and together they hid and stood.
Then the lion asked them why they were running. All the animals replied in chorus that they were running away because the earth was falling to pieces. When the lion asked them who saw the earth falling, the animals started pointing at each other. At last the first hare who started all this came forward and spoke to the lion. Ja Hare told all that had happened till that time. The lion realized that the hare had heard the fruit of a ripe vine falling on a palm leaf and started running believing that the earth was breaking into pieces.
Then the lion ordered the other animals to stay where they were and took each one under the palm tree. After inspecting the place, the lion found ripe bael fruit which had fallen on the palm leaves. Then the lion understood everything. He told the rabbit to jump on his back, and they went back to the other animals. 1 Then the wise lion spoke to the other animals and assured them that there was no earthquake or any other calamity and it was safe for them to return to their place. All the animals thanked the lion and went back home.
