सुरेंद्र बहुत अमीर आदमी था। उसने पैसे, सोना, चांदी, हीरे और कीमती पत्थरों को तीन बड़े गोदामों में जमा किया था। वह इतना कंजूस था कि उसे अपने जमा हुए किसी भी खजाने को खर्च करने से नफरत थी। उन्होंने अपने परिवार की भी देखभाल नहीं की। उसने अपने बच्चों के लिए सबसे सस्ते कपड़े खरीदे और उसने अपने परिवार के सदस्यों को लगभग भूखा रखा। वह उन्हें ज्यादातर समय घी पिलाता था।

एक दिन ऐसा हुआ कि उसने एक आदमी को लड्डू खाते हुए देखा। उसे लड्डू खाए हुए काफी समय हो गया था। लड्डू सुनते ही उसके मुँह में पानी आने लगा। वह एक लड्डू के लिए बेताब था। वह जानता था कि उसकी पत्नी वंदना उसे लड्डू बनाएगी। लेकिन, वह कई लड्डू तैयार करती थी ताकि वह उन्हें अपने बच्चों, नौकरों और दोस्तों के साथ बांट सकें। सुरेंद्र इतने लड्डू पर अपना पैसा बर्बाद नहीं करना चाहते थे। इसलिए, उन्होंने चुप रहने का फैसला किया।

Surendra was a very rich man. He stored money, gold, silver, diamonds and precious stones in three big godowns. He was so stingy that he hated to spend any treasure he had accumulated. He didn't even take care of his family. He bought the cheapest clothes for his children and he almost starved his family members. He used to make them drink ghee most of the time.

One day it so happened that he saw a man eating laddus. It had been a long time since he had eaten the laddoos. His mouth started watering as soon as he heard the laddus. He was desperate for a laddoo. He knew that his wife Vandana would make him laddus. But, she used to prepare many laddus so that she could distribute them with her children, servants and friends. Surendra did not want to waste his money on so many laddus. Therefore, he decided to remain silent.

But, the urge to eat a laddoo was such that his legs became weak and his stomach started rumbling loudly. His wife asked him what was wrong with him. Surendra finally asked her to make laddus. Vandana was happy. She said that she would make dozens of laddus and give them to their children, neighbors and servants. Surendra was shocked to think of his money being wasted on so many laddus. He said there was no need to share them with neighbors and friends. When Vandana said that she would make laddus for the family, Surendra also opposed it.

He did not want his children to eat laddus. Frustrated Vandana said that she will make two laddus, one for her and one for her. Surendra also did not approve of this. He asked her to make only one laddu for her. Vandana was ashamed of her husband's miserliness. He made only one laddu and Surendra ate it with great fervor. He has no regrets for not sharing it with his family.

Sakka, the king of the gods and the ruler of heaven, saw all this from above and decided to teach Surendra a lesson. The next day, when Surendra went for a morning walk, Sakka took the form of Surendra and entered his house. He tells Vandana that he is going to share all his property. He asked her to open the doors of his treasure houses and invited people to take whatever they wanted.

Vandana was very happy with this change of husband. He sent a servant to invite the people and open the doors of the barn. People came running and started snatching money. Sakka tells him that if any fraudster who looks like him tries to stop him, they should drive him away. Surendra returned and found that his property was being looted. He tried to stop them, but was driven away.

Surendra went to the king and complained against the people for looting his property. The king wanted to know who had ordered the people to be invited. Then, Sakka in the form of Surendra came to the court with Vandana and children. An altercation broke out between the two Surendras. The king was confused. He requests Vandana to identify the real Surendra. Vandana asks both the surrenderers whether it is better to be generous to all or not. Believing Surendra agreed with her. The real Surendra did not agree with him. Vandana chose make-up Surendra as her husband.

The real Surendra was heartbroken. Then Sakka appeared in his form and told the king that he had come down from heaven to teach Surendra a lesson. He tells Surendra that his miserliness has put him in such a situation. Even his wife and children did not like him, as they were fed up with his petty and lousy behaviour. Sakka advises Surendra to be more generous.

Surendra said that he would try to be a little more generous, but, Sakka asked him to be more generous and warned him, if he didn't, he would come back for her. Sakka disappeared in a cloud of smoke. Surendra happily embraced his wife and children. Vandana said that she will distribute this occasion by making dozens of laddus. Surendra reluctantly agreed.
