धर्मव्याध ने विनम्रतापूर्वक कौशिका से कहा कि वह उसे केवल उसके द्वारा अनुसरण किए गए मार्ग के बारे में बता सकता है। उनका विचार था कि व्यक्ति को अपने कर्तव्यों में संलग्न होना चाहिए, सच्चा, धैर्यवान और दयालु होना चाहिए। सुख में हर्षित नहीं होना चाहिए और कठिनाइयों में उदास नहीं होना चाहिए। हमेशा प्रार्थना और तप में लगे रहना चाहिए और दूसरों में अच्छे गुणों की सराहना करनी चाहिए। उसने कौशिका को यह भी बताया कि यद्यपि वह मांस बेचने के वंशानुगत पेशे का पालन करता था, उसने जानवरों को नहीं मारा और कभी झूठ नहीं बोला और इसलिए उसका कोई दुश्मन नहीं था। उन्होंने कहा कि उनका सबसे महत्वपूर्ण कर्तव्य अपने माता-पिता की भक्ति के साथ सेवा करना था क्योंकि उनका आशीर्वाद उनके लिए एक ढाल की तरह था।

Long time ago there lived a person named Kaushika. Although he was well versed in the Vedas, he was wise to surpass everyone in learning and left home to meditate and study in the forest.

Once when he was studying the Vedas under a tree, he was distracted by the loud chirping of a crane sitting on a tree above him. Kaushika looked up and looked at the bird and it was burnt to ashes. Kaushika felt sorry for the death of the bird, but was also pleased by its ascetic powers.

He went to a nearby town to beg for alms, and stood in front of a house to beg, the mistress was busy taking care of her husband and it took him some time to bring the alms. When Kaushika looked at him, the woman smiled and said that he was not a stork which he could blow away with his dazzle. Kaushika was astonished and wondered how the woman came to know about this incident, then the woman explained to Kaushika, that she had mastered the Vedas, but was ignorant of the secrets of Dharma and had to know about the secrets of Dharma. Asked to go to Mithila to know. Men are called Dharmavyadh.

Kaushika then went to Mithila and met Dharmavyadh. Dharmavyadh was a meat seller. When Dharmavyadh saw Kaushik, he warmly welcomed him and asked him if some pious lady had sent him to meet him. Kaustika felt embarrassed. He had always imagined that he was the only learned man. But now he realized that it was not so. Later Kaushika humbly requested Dharmavyadh to tell him about the secrets of Dharma.

Dharmavyadh humbly told Kaushika that he could only tell her about the path he had followed. He was of the view that one should engage in one's duties, be truthful, patient and kind. One should not rejoice in happiness and should not be sad in difficulties. One should always be engaged in prayer and penance and appreciate the good qualities in others. He also told Kaushika that although he followed the hereditary profession of selling meat, he did not kill animals and never lied and therefore had no enemies. He said that his most important duty was to serve his parents with devotion as their blessings were like a shield for them.

Later Dharmavyadh took Kaushika to his house to meet his parents and bowed before them and sought their blessings. Kaushika also bowed to Dharmavyadh's parents and sought their blessings. Then Kaushika humbly bowed to Dharmavyadh and said that the ego of a rim has evaporated and Dharmavyadh has opened his eyes. He tells Dharmavyadh that from then on he will reunite with his parents and serve them and also develop the quality of following Dharmavyadh. Kaushika returned home and spent her days serving her parents and teaching the Vedas.
