उसके बाद दोनों लड़कों में झगडा हो गया, जिस पर तैराक ने हंस के स्वामित्व का दावा किया। देव दत्त ने दावा किया कि हंस उसका था क्योंकि उसने उसे मार दिया था। लेकिन सिद्धार्थ ने दावा किया कि हंस उसका था क्योंकि उसने उसकी जान बचाई थी। वे हंस के स्वामित्व का निर्णय नहीं कर सके।
