'The Collectors' is a one-act drama about the encounter of a group of teachers and children on an adventure walk in secluded countryside with two aliens. The aliens have taken the form of humans and so the group takes refuge in their spaceship, thinking of it as a home.

It is raining heavily and Miss Swan wonders if she can find shelter. But Mr. Hunt replies that he can find shelter only after reaching the village three miles away. It is at this point that the group sees a house. The strangeness of the house is clearly visible from the beginning.

Mrs Jones says it's going to look funny. Mr. Hunt remarks that when they went there last summer it was not there. However, since the children are wet and cold, they decide to go home for shelter. They also think that if it is shameful for so many people to ask for shelter, they will take shelter in the shed.

However, they are welcomed by the members of the household, Mrs. and Mr. Brown. The elders are taken to the meeting and tea is also given to them. But the children start feeling uneasy once the three teachers and the family members move into the living room. Once Wayne and he have fled through the back door, he orders the aliens to go out through the other door and lock it behind them. After walking out the door, he elopes with Wayne and escapes being kidnapped by aliens. Thus, Pete has clarity of thought even in distress and protects not only himself but all his friends and teachers as well.

After a while the group is surprised to find that it is neither raining nor fogging and the sun has gone out. Not just home. It is as if he imagined his encounter with the aliens. There is a difference of opinion on reporting the matter. Some people, like Tracy, think no one will believe them.

Some, like Mr. Hunt, feel that the matter should be reported, especially since people have gone missing. He feels there should be a warning. The play ends even as the group continues to debate the matter.
