'द विलेज स्कूल मास्टर' गोल्डस्मिथ की प्रसिद्ध लंबी कविता 'द डेजर्टेड विलेज' का एक उद्धरण है जिसमें उन्होंने उन्नीसवीं शताब्दी में आयरलैंड के एक गाँव के पतन का वर्णन किया है। कहा जाता है कि स्कूल मास्टर का वर्णन करने वाला उद्धरण एक पूर्व सैनिक थॉमस बायर्न से प्रेरित था, जिसने सुनार को बचपन में पढ़ाया था।

गांव के स्कूल मास्टर एक छोटे से गांव में अपना छोटा स्कूल चलाते थे। यह अनियमित बाड़ के बगल में स्थित था जिसने गाँव के रास्ते को पूर्ण रूप से खिले हुए, सुंदर लेकिन सजावटी फर्ज़ के साथ घेर लिया था। वह बहुत सख्त अनुशासक था। वह कवि और अन्य सभी नखरों से परिचित था क्योंकि उन्होंने गुरु के क्रोध को सहन किया था। उनका चेहरा सावधानीपूर्वक जांच का विषय था। छात्र उससे डरते थे और उसके चेहरे पर उसकी वर्तमान मनःस्थिति को महसूस करने के लिए देखते थे। दिन का दुर्भाग्य उसके माथे पर या भौंहों के बीच में लिखा हुआ था।

'The Village Schoolmaster' is a quote from Goldsmith's famous long poem 'The Deserted Village' in which he describes the decline of a village in 19th century Ireland. The quote describing the schoolmaster is said to have been inspired by Thomas Byrne, a former soldier who taught Goldsmith as a child.

In addition, he was able to measure the contents of a vessel. He was also adept at reasoning. Even Parson acknowledged his skill in debate. Even after losing, the schoolmaster kept on arguing.

He became more irritable and used to lash out at his opponent. Villagers who do not understand will be convinced that the schoolmaster is setting his point of view very well. They both stood between the debaters and witnessed the verbal duel. He was stunned to hear the high-pitched and incomprehensible words used by the schoolmaster. They looked at him and wondered how his small head could hold such a huge store of knowledge.
