हमारा शरीर बिल्कुल एक जेल की तरह है। जहां शरीर है वहां कर्म होना चाहिए। फिर कोई कर्मों से अर्थात् पाप के कलंक से कैसे मुक्त हो सकता है, इसका उत्तर गीता में है, कर्मों के फल का त्याग कर और स्वयं को ईश्वर/शरीर और आत्मा को समर्पित करके कर्म से मुक्त हो सकता है। त्याग को प्राप्त करने के लिए सम्यक ज्ञान आवश्यक है और भक्ति उसके साथ है। लेकिन गीता के लिए आवश्यक भक्ति निश्चित रूप से अंध विश्वास नहीं है। सच्चा भक्त वह है जो किसी से ईर्ष्या नहीं करता और जो दया का स्रोत है। वह क्षमाशील है और श्रेष्ठता से मुक्त है,

दुख और भय। इस प्रकार, एक वास्तविक भक्त होने के लिए स्वयं को महसूस करना है। हमारा ज्ञान या भक्ति हमें न तो मोक्ष या बंधन खरीद सकता है। साधन की पराकाष्ठा मोक्ष है। गीता का उद्धार पूर्ण शांति है।
सभी जीवों को कुछ न कुछ काम जरूर करना पड़ता है। गीता कहती है, "अपना आवंटित कार्य करो लेकिन उसके फल को त्यागो और कर्म करो-प्रतिफल और कर्म की कोई इच्छा नहीं है।" प्रत्येक क्रिया के संबंध में व्यक्ति को उस परिणाम का पता होना चाहिए जिसका अनुसरण करने की अपेक्षा की जाती है, उसके साधन और उसके लिए क्षमता। झूठ, जो इस प्रकार सुसज्जित होने के कारण, परिणाम की इच्छा के बिना है, और अभी भी उसके सामने स्वाद की उचित पूर्ति में पूरी तरह से तल्लीन है, कहा जाता है कि उसने अपने कर्म के फल को त्याग दिया है।

Right knowledge is necessary for attaining renunciation and devotion is with it. But the devotion required for the Gita is certainly not blind faith. A true devotee is one who is not jealous of anyone and who is the source of mercy. He is forgiving and free from superiority,

sorrow and fear. Thus, to be a real devotee is to realize oneself. Our knowledge or devotion can neither buy us salvation or bondage. The culmination of means is salvation. The salvation of the Gita is complete peace.
All living beings have to do some work. The Gita says, "Do your allotted work but give up the fruit of it and do the work—there is no desire for reward and action." In relation to each action one must know the result which is expected to follow, its means and the potential for it. The liar, who is thus equipped, without desire for consequence, and still utterly engrossed in the proper fulfillment of taste before him, is said to have forsaken the fruits of his karma.
