About GKV College
Gurukula Kangri Vidyapeeth or Gurukul Kangri Vidyapeeth ('गुरुकुल कांगड़ी विद्यापीठ') is a university in the city of Haridwar in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is on the bank of the Ganges about 6 km from Hardwar and about 200 km from Delhi.
Gurukula Kangri Vidyapeeth was established on March 4, 1902 by Arya Samaj Sanyasi Swami Shraddhan, a follower of Dayananda Saraswati, with the sole aim of reviving the ancient Indian Gurukula education system. The institute was started with the aim of providing a local alternative to Lord McCauley's education policy by educating him in the fields of Vedic literature, Indian philosophy, Indian culture, modern science and research.
It is a UGC / Government fully funded university. Of India.
Arya Samaj advocated for the education of women. Acharya Ramdevji established the Kanya Gurukula Campus in Dehradun in 1922 as the second campus for women's education as part of the country's policies for the upliftment of women. Hardware was founded in 1993 to give a reality to the dreams of Swami Shraddhanandaji on the Kanya Gurukula campus.
The Gurukul witnessed many distinguished guests. C. F. Andrews, Ramsay MacDonald, Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit. Madan Mohan Malaviya, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Radhakrishnan, s. Jamnalal Bajaj, Dr. Munje, Sadhu Vaswani, Pandit. Jawaharlal Nehru, Smt. Indira Gandhi and S. Giani Jail Singh, s. L.K. Advani and Smt. Meera Kumar, Speaker visited the Lok Sabha.
The foundation was inspired by the teachings and activities of Dayananda Saraswati, the founder of the Arya Samaj. The first foundation brick was laid at Gujrawala in Punjab. As mentioned in Satyarth Prakash during the Partition of India, Swami G was looking for a suitable palace in India according to the imagination of Dayananda Saraswati. When the river receded in 1924, the village of Kangri in Bijnor district was flooded; The new (existing) campus was later built.
