एक धनी व्यक्ति रहता था, लेकिन वह अपने धन से संतुष्ट नहीं था। वह अपनी संपत्ति में और सोना जोड़ना चाहता था। इस उद्देश्य को प्राप्त करने के लिए, उन्होंने 'कल्पक' वृक्ष से प्रार्थना की कि वह उन्हें सोने के सिक्कों से भरा एक बर्तन दे। उनकी प्रार्थना सुनी गई और उन्हें उपहार के रूप में सोने के सिक्कों की सात चांदी के घड़े (बर्तन) दिए गए।
इसके अलावा निर्दयी वृक्ष ने उन्हें सोने के सिक्कों से भरा एक और (आठवां) घड़ा प्रदान किया। वह वृक्ष निर्दयी था, क्योंकि उस ने घड़े को उस से प्रसन्न न होने के कारण दिया था।
अमीर आदमी ने जितनी जल्दी हो सके इसे किनारे तक भरने का मन बना लिया। वह चांदी के सभी सात घड़े भी भूल गया। उसकी गंदी मंशा ने उसे पागल बना दिया था और पैसे के पीछे भागना पड़ा था। उसके पास अपने परिवार के कल्याण के लिए समय नहीं था और वह उनके लिए सोचना भूल गया था। सुबह से रात तक वह बेचैन होकर और दौलत जोड़ने के बारे में सोच रहा था। उसने अपने स्वास्थ्य की परवाह नहीं की और अपनी शक्ति और शक्ति खो दी। लेकिन कड़ी मशक्कत के बाद भी वह घड़ा नहीं भर सका। एक दिन उनकी मृत्यु हो गई।

इसलिए कवि समझाना चाहता है कि हमें लालची नहीं होना चाहिए। हमें पवित्रता और अच्छे आचरण के मार्ग पर चलना चाहिए। मेहनत से पैसा कमाना और संतुष्ट रहना बेहतर है। यही जीवन का सत्य है।
