About Balurghat College
Balurghat College is one of the oldest College of northern part of West Bengal. It came into being on September8, 1948 in the district headquarters, Balurghat of Dakshin (South) Dinajpur. It is the oldest as well as largest college of Dakshin Dinajpur district. Balurghat College is reckoned as a pioneering institute of higher education in North Bengal.
The college was established in this border district just after the independence of India in response to an increasing demand for higher education opportunities for the youth of this far-flung area where a good number of migrated people from the erstwhile East Pakistan settled. The college symbolizes the hope and aspiration of the local youths and is a milestone in the history of cultural development of the district. From its humble beginning in 1948, the college slowly and steadily grew into a constituent college with post-graduate teaching facility. Since the beginning of its journey in 1948, Balurghat College embraced a clear mission to transform society and the nation by imparting modern and liberal education to youths.
The college is still committed to the ideas of liberal education and recognizes the fact that times have changed that it must adapt and evolve to keep up with the rapidly changing world. It is a co-educational college affiliated to Gour Banga University, Malda and offers various courses in Science, Humanities and Commerce at the degree level.
In fact the college offers honours courses altogether in sixteen subjects and twenty subjects are offered for opting chosen subjects for pursuing any general course at the degree level. At the P.G level the college offers M.A in Bengali, Sanskrit and History. The college is consistently producing good results in all the disciplines in university examinations. Apart from vibrant and meaningful classroom teaching, the college provides several support programmes all of which make the educational experience of our students rich and indelible. Balurghat College always envisages providing a sound academic environment where the possibility of the holistic development of students is maximized. Along with academic pursuit the college emphasizes the nurturing of sports and other extra-curricular talents of the students.
The college has a resounding alumni association which shows active interest to all round development of the college. Balurghat College gracefully acknowledges the contribution of the alumni association of the college.

The campus occupies 9.5 acres (38,000 m2) in Balurghat and is equipped with facilities including a library, laboratories, museum, hostel, workshop and guest house.
