About Sukanta College
The vision and dream of the renowned Bengali poet Sukanta Bhattacharya (1926-1947) was the inspiration behind the establishment of Sukanta College. In his short span of life the poet painted the colours of poverty and social injustice in his works. The Founder-President Sri Lokman Molla and local enthusiastic people dreamed the same—to impart knowledge and higher education among the downtrodden in the Sundarbans. With that vision the foundation stone of Sukanta College was laid in 2008 and with the passage of time it reached new heights. In 2019, it got the Permanent Affiliation from the University of Calcutta. At present, we have nearly twelve-hundred students studying different disciplines in different years. Nine subjects are taught at Honours and General courses in the undergraduate level.
