In this chapter the author tries to unravel the mystery of the abominable snowman or as we call it 'Yeti'. In 1921, Colonel Howard Bury, leader of the first Mount Everest party, discovered the footprints of a human at Lakhpa La, 22,000 feet northeast of the mountain. To him, the belief of his porters that the tracks were made by wild men of snow was ridiculous.

They feel that science welcomes all speculation and on that basis the scientist finds out to add something new to that knowledge. If fingerprints can decide the fate of a man, why can't footprints establish one's existence. Hence, the author begins an attempt to find out the facts behind the ghastly snowman. Mr. Henry Newman interviewed the porters and obtained a full description of the wild men who were called mech kangmi - kangmi meaning snowman and mech as Newman translated happily disgusting.

Mr Newman thought the tracks were made by men who were either outlaws or ascetics attempting to obtain magical powers from the human race by cutting themselves off and refusing to wash. The slimy snowman has long remained a mystery. In 1936, Mr. Ronald Kaulbach, while traveling iii Upper Cyvin, reported seeing five sets of tracks at 16,000 feet, all built by barefoot man. The report was refuted by various views but they confirmed that they did not find any monkeys or langurs in the area.

However, he did not dismiss the idea of giant pandas and snow bears. In an article in The Times, Mr. Smith described how at an altitude of 6,50 feet in Garhwal in the central Himalayas, he and his Sherpa porters found a giant foot print clearly a bipedal. Photographs and measurements were taken and to capture things the Sherpas were prompted to sign a statement that the tracks belonged to Mech Kangmi. Later, the prints were handed over to zoological pundits and pronounced to be bears by them.

In short, any track seen in high snow can safely be attributed to bears and nothing that is decidedly bullshit. In 1938 the author also saw tracks that could not be overcome by screaming bears compared to tracks seen by Kaulback, Alumen, Spear and others. The writer was in Sikkim and accompanied by two Sherpas, he was crossing the Jemu Sap, a 19,000-feet pass between Kangchenjunga and Simbu. He was told that; Those parts were last visited by Brigadier Johann Hunt.

There is a discrepancy between the track seen by Hunt and the track of the writer. In conclusion, the author A.N. Tombazi examined footprints that resembled those of a man but were only six or seven inches long. Five toes and foot prints were clear but heel marks were indistinct. The prints undoubtedly belonged to a bipedal.

Tombazzi reiterated with sufficient certainty that the silhouette of the mysterious creature resembled the outline of a human figure. The author sees Mr. Tombazi as an unwitting witness with his fantastic legends and delicious fairy tales and is even more valuable in that account. They concluded with their confirmation that tracks for which no adequate explanation has emerged have been observed and will, undoubtedly, continue to be seen in the Himalayas. Until other strong contenders appear, we'll hold them responsible for the abominable snowman.
