चित्रा वर्मा एक महान चित्रकार थीं। उनकी महान पेंटिंग को देखकर एक दिन श्रीकृष्ण देवराय ने उन्हें मुख्य सलाहकार नियुक्त किया। चित्रा वर्मा ने अनिच्छा से इसे स्वीकार कर लिया। तेनाली रामकृष्ण ने भी इसका विरोध किया। इस प्रकार राज्य में घोषणा की गई थी।
चूंकि चित्रा वर्मा को अदालती मामलों को संभालने का कोई अनुभव नहीं था, इसलिए राज्य के लोग अधीर हो गए और उन्होंने तेनाली रामकृष्ण से मुलाकात की और समस्या को हल करने का अनुरोध किया।

अपनी योजना के अनुसार, रामकृष्ण ने सम्राट को अपने पुत्र को उनके नामकरण समारोह में आशीर्वाद देने के लिए आमंत्रित किया। उन्होंने सारे इंतजाम किए। सम्राट ने समारोह में भाग लिया और बच्चे को आशीर्वाद दिया। बाद में दोपहर के भोजन की व्यवस्था की गई और व्यंजन परोसे गए। व्यंजन भयानक थे। वे खाने में अच्छे नहीं थे। उन्हें ठीक से पकाया नहीं गया था। तब रामकृष्ण महाराज के सामने रसोइया लाए और कहा कि उसने व्यंजन पकाने के लिए राज्य में सबसे अच्छे बढ़ई को नियुक्त किया है।

सम्राट ने रामकृष्ण से पूछा कि एक उत्कृष्ट बढ़ई रसोइया कैसे बन सकता है। रामकृष्ण ने उत्तर दिया कि यदि एक चित्रकार सम्राट का मुख्य सलाहकार हो सकता है, तो एक बढ़ई रसोइया क्यों नहीं हो सकता। सम्राट ने चित्रा वर्मा को अपना मुख्य सलाहकार नियुक्त करने में अपनी गलती को सोचा और महसूस किया। उन्होंने चित्रा वर्मा को उनकी पिछली नौकरी पर वापस भेज दिया और रामकृष्ण को धन्यवाद दिया। सभी ने तेनाली रामकृष्ण के मन की उपस्थिति की प्रशंसा की।

Chitra Verma was a great painter. Seeing his great painting, one day Sri Krishna Devaraya appointed him as the chief advisor. Chitra Verma reluctantly accepted it. Tenali Ramakrishna also opposed it. Thus was declared in the state.

Later, lunch was arranged and dishes were served. The dishes were terrible. They were not good at eating. They were not cooked properly. Ramakrishna then brought the cook in front of Maharaj and said that he had hired the best carpenter in the state to cook the dishes.

The emperor asked Ramakrishna how an excellent carpenter could become a cook. Ramakrishna replied that if a painter could be the chief advisor to the emperor, why could a carpenter not be a cook. The emperor thought and realized his mistake in appointing Chitra Varma as his chief advisor. He sent Chitra Verma back to his previous job and thanked Ramakrishna. Everyone admired Tenali Ramakrishna's presence of mind.
