रमैया नाम के एक बुनकर ने विद्यार्थियों को ले लिया और उन्हें एक खुला क्षेत्र दिखाया जहाँ सूत फैला हुआ था। एक अन्य बुनकर सम्बय्या ने उन्हें समझाया कि मंगलगिरी कपास की विशिष्टता इसकी स्थायित्व के कारण है। उन्होंने कहा कि वे साड़ी, पोशाक सामग्री, कुर्ता, दुपट्टा और शर्ट बुनते हैं। इसकी एक समृद्ध उपस्थिति है। बुनकरों द्वारा किए गए काम की गुणवत्ता और साड़ी बुनने के लिए बुनकरों को जो दर्द होता है, वह हमारे मंगलागिरी कपड़े के लिए प्यार बनाए रखता है।

मंगलागिरी कपड़ा उद्योग में अस्सी हजार की आबादी में करीब 5000 बुनकर काम कर रहे हैं। हथकरघा साड़ियों के कारण मंगलगिरी का विश्व कपड़ा मानचित्र में एक विशेष स्थान है और यहां बुनी गई पोशाक-सामग्री विश्व प्रसिद्ध है।

कपड़ा उद्योग में बुनकरों को कई समस्याओं का सामना करना पड़ता है। उन्हें कड़ी प्रतिस्पर्धा, फैशन में बदलाव, चलन, कच्चे माल की कमी और बिचौलियों की भागीदारी का सामना करना पड़ता है। हालांकि हथकरघा कपड़े का पारंपरिक मूल्य उनकी विशिष्टता के लिए बढ़ रहा है। इस प्रकार, हथकरघा कपड़े की कलात्मक अपील के कारण वैश्विक मांग बहुत अधिक है।

One day an English teacher took a case-study class in Mangalagiri, a famous handicraft weaving town in Guntur district. The case-study is about the knitting industry.

The students tried to learn many things about the weaving industry in Mangalagiri with the help of a master weaver named Veeraiah.

Mr. Veeraiah explained to them how they make the yarn suitable for dyeing. After dyeing it is washed, dried at room temperature and brought for spinning process. Later the spools of yarn are drawn to make clothes.

A weaver named Ramaiah took the students and showed them an open area where the yarn was spread. Another weaver Sambayya explained to him that the uniqueness of Mangalagiri cotton lies in its durability. He said that they weave saris, dress materials, kurtas, dupattas and shirts. It has a rich presence. The quality of work done by the weavers and the pain that the weavers take to weave the saree is what maintains the love for our Mangalagiri fabric.

There are about 5000 weavers working in Mangalagiri textile industry out of a population of eighty thousand. Mangalagiri has a special place in the world textile map because of the handloom sarees and the world famous dress material woven here.

Weavers have to face many problems in the textile industry. They face stiff competition, changes in fashion, trends, shortage of raw materials and involvement of middlemen. Although the traditional value of handloom fabrics is increasing for their uniqueness. Thus, the global demand is very high due to the artistic appeal of handloom fabrics.
