The caste system might have started with a good cause and motive. Still, people turned it into an untenable division that caused hindrance in the growth and development of Indian society.

The caste system, instead of igniting the sense of respect for every occupation, eventually was used as a discrimination method. People started making a ladder or pyramid in the Indian caste system associated with the level of respect each caste should be given.

All this gave rise to negative feelings like greed, disgust, racism, and the false sense of entitlement. The most oppressed and suffered caste was the sect of people associated with janitors’ work, and they were called the untouchables. Later, Mahatma Gandhi gave them the name Harijans. It is because of social reformers like Dr. Ambedkar and Raja Rammohan Roy that the scenario of the caste system is changed in India, as now no discrimination based on caste is allowed.

Paragraph on Caste System in 200-250 Words / Essay on Caste System in 200 Words

Students can find below a paragraph of Caste System in 200-250 words or essay on Caste System in 200 words:

From ancient times until now, the caste system has always held a sturdy base in Indian society. Caste in India was used as an identification of an individual as to which family the person belonged to, which also meant which field of work he was involved in because of his family. The four primary castes of the Hindu community are Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaisya, Shudra. Other than this, there are thousands of sub-castes and communities who form the Indian society.

This form of division eventually gave rise to greed, and the higher castes started oppressing the lower caste. The caste system eventually evolved and gave rise to greater social evils. But in Independent India, as per the law, any discrimination or injustice based on caste is banned. Also, to correct the injustice done before lower or schedule tribe castes, the government initiated a reservation system or ‘quota’ for those coming from ST, SC, and OBC families.

Even though the motive behind the quota system was good, which was to provide jobs and education to those who needed them and were the backward classes of the society, but people soon started using this for unfair purposes like gaining reservation, or acquiring education opportunities or jobs when they didn’t need it and came from a well-to-do family.

As respectable citizens, it is our duty to uphold those who are in bad condition. If we are not concerned about others’ well-being, this planet will never become an ideal place to spend our lives. Our birth should never mark our value. We should be defined by our good qualities and the work we do as a contribution to society. In God’s eyes, every being is equal, and that is precisely how we should treat each other in society.

Paragraph on Caste System in 300 Words / Essay on Caste System in 300-500 Words

Students can find below a paragraph of Caste System in 300-500 words or essay on Caste System in 300 words:

Today the caste system is one of the major issues that people are facing. It is basically a system that separate peoples on the basis of their caste. However, it is a very common issue in India. It is present for a very long time in our country. Many people believe in it and many people don’t. It depends on the thinking and mindset of an individual. Some people are against this system and on the other hand, some are in support of this. It is basically a kind of division between the people.

Problems Due to Caste System
The higher caste children are facing a lot of difficulties in finding jobs. Earlier it was not this difficult to find job. The Scheduled Caste (SCs), Schedule Tribes (STs), and the other backward classes (OBCs) needless grades than a general candidate. This is because they get a reservation and the qualifying marks or grades for them are less as compared to the required marks of a general candidate.

This happens because of the caste system. People say that the Lower caste people deserve and need the reservation. They need it because people treat them unequally because of the discrimination occurring through the caste system. The generals see them as lower category people, not all but many. Many people are still there who don’t believe in the caste system.

Many talented students don’t get admissions in good universities and colleges. This happens because of the reservation given to the lower caste people. They get reserved seats in schools and colleges and they need to study less for the entrance exams as they need fewer marks or less performance as compared to a general student.

Present Scenario of the Caste System
The interpersonal relations among the members of the various castes are changing for better. Inter caste marriage is still a problem in society. For many people inter-caste marriage is wrong. On the other hand, many people believe that it is not a bad concern. The higher castes are processing either money or education or even both.

Often take lead in the new commercial, administrative and industrial institutions that are now present in the planning era. Thus, those located high in the order of castes. These are still at the top of the bar and the old degrees of the prestige of caste have been replaced by an equivalent degree of economic and social power.

Attempts by the Harijans for exercising the rights provided to them by the constitution have led to attacks on them by the castes that are dominant. They are beaten and also their huts are burning in the fire that is occurring by the dominant class. Moreover, they are coming under the social boycott.

A significant development in the period before the independence of the nation is the emergence of the caste as a political force. In the life of the urban areas, new institutions are rising. In many states, the politics is turning out in caste-politics. When it comes to choosing a candidate the first thing that is considered is the caste.

FAQs on Paragraph on Caste System in English

Few Lines on Importance of Caste System??

The caste system in India is the paradigmatic ethnographic example of classification of castes. It has its origins in ancient India, and was transformed by various ruling elites in medieval, early-modern, and modern India, especially the Mughal Empire and the British Raj. It is today the basis of affirmative action programmes in India as enforced through its constitution. The caste system consists of two different concepts, varna and jati, which may be regarded as different levels of analysis of this system.

The caste system as it exists today is thought to be the result of developments during the collapse of the Mughal era and the rise of the British colonial government in India. The collapse of the Mughal era saw the rise of powerful men who associated themselves with kings, priests and ascetics, affirming the regal and martial form of the caste ideal, and it also reshaped many apparently casteless social groups into differentiated caste communities. The British Raj furthered this development, making rigid caste organisation a central mechanism of administration. Between 1860 and 1920, the British formulated the caste system into their system of governance, granting administrative jobs and senior appointments only to Christians and people belonging to certain castes. Social unrest during the 1920s led to a change in this policy. From then on, the colonial administration began a policy of positive discrimination by reserving a certain percentage of government jobs for the lower castes. In 1948, negative discrimination on the basis of caste was banned by law and further enshrined in the Indian constitution; however, the system continues to be practiced in parts of India. There are 3,000 castes and 25,000 sub-castes in India, each related to a specific occupation.

Caste-based differences have also been practised in other regions and religions in the Indian subcontinent, like Nepalese Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism. It has been challenged by many reformist Hindu movements, Sikhism, Christianity, by present-day Indian Buddhism. With Indian influences, the caste system is also practiced in Bali and parts of Southeast Asia such as Cambodia, Laos and Thailand.

India after achieving independence in 1947 enacted many affirmative action policies for the upliftment of historically marginalized groups as enforced through its constitution. These policies included reserving a quota of places for these groups in higher education and government employment.
