Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar – A Social Reformer

B.R. Ambedkar is a name that commands respect from all the sections of Indian society. He was respected and still is looked upon with much honor, by the higher castes as well as the lower caste of India. Born on 14th April 1891, in a poor low caste family at Mhow in present-day Madhya Pradesh; though, they were originally from Ratnagiri in Maharashtra.

Coming from a low caste, Dr. Ambedkar as a kid had faced severe discrimination at school and society as well. At school, there was a separate arrangement for lower-caste students and they were not even allowed to drink water from the same container, meant for the upper caste children.

The discrimination faced by him during his childhood might have molded his thoughts and shaped his personality. The boy grew up to become one of the greatest champions of Dalit rights, ever born on Indian soil. But, in the true sense, he was a champion of equality. He fought for the rights of not even Dalits, but also women, children, poor or any other oppressed person as well, irrespective of caste or class.
