After all, our beloved mother does for us, and it is only normal that we would like to make them feel special. for that, the ninth day of May month is observed as Mother’s Day.

On this day, we try to give our mother some rest from her daily chores, and we also give her handmade gifts like cards or some craft that we already made before secretively. It brings her joy to get a surprise, and her smile makes us happy too.

Every year my father helps in the arrangements of the celebration of Mother’s Day. We spend the day pampering mother by doing her chores, and later at night, we go out to have good food.

My mother cherishes the gifts I make for her the most. And every year, she stores the gifts I make for her with utmost care inside the cupboard. Mother’s day is all about being grateful for the presence of this amazing human in our life.

Mother’s Day is a special day and an occasion celebrated across the world in most families. On this day, we try to express our love, respect, honor, and gratitude for our mother.

On this day, society acknowledges all the contributions and efforts of mothers. for the unconditional love, our mothers give us, and we can never be grateful enough, let alone ever repay. We share a strong maternal bond with the woman responsible for our upbringing.

Most children are excited about Mother’s Day because, on this day, they can force their mother to take rest from their busy life. Children request their mother to spend the whole day with them while children work to show their love.

It doesn’t necessarily mean for being a mother, and an individual has to give birth to a child. It is the nurturing and love that is given to a child by a female, or a feminine gendered individual provides as they take the responsibility of a child makes them a mother.

The person who makes us realize God’s presence in every one of our lives is our mother. She is that sole being who has more trust in us than the trust we have in ourselves. Our coming to existence is the blessing of our mothers.

No one else is as worried about our health and well-being as our mother. We all remember those countless nights when our mothers did not leave our side for an instance when we needed them. It is truly a shame for those who do not value their mother as they should. We should all strive to make our parents, especially our mother, happy by following her teachings and becoming a good and successful person.

Introduction

Mother’s Day is celebrated on different days throughout the globe to commemorate mothers and to honor their love, sacrifice, and hardship for their families. Although there is no specific date for the celebration of Mother’s Day, it is commonly celebrated in the months of March or May.

Mother’s Day – An Initiative by Anna Jarvis

Anna Maria Jarvis (1864-1948), born in West Virginia, United States, is known as the founder of modern Mother’s Day. She reportedly got the idea from her mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, who had expressed her desire for the commemoration of mothers in a family for the endless and matchless service they provide to the family as well as to the society.

Ann Reeves Jarvis was a social worker and also founded Mother’s Day Work Clubs. Her daughter, Anna Maria Jarvis knew about her mother’s desire for a commemoratory day for the mothers, from an early age.

Three years after the death of her mother in 1905, a memorial was organized by him in 1908 in the memory of her mother at St. Andrew’s Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia.

Initially, the proposal of Mother’s Day as an official holiday was rejected by the U.S. Congress; nevertheless, many states started observing the holiday by 1911.

Efforts of Anna Jarvis bore fruits when Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of the United States, constituted Mother’s Day as a national holiday, to be celebrated on the second Sunday in the month of May.

When is Mother’s Day Celebrated?

There is no globally accepted date for the observation of Mother’s Day and it is observed in different countries on different dates or on specific weekdays.

Initially many countries followed the tradition of the United States, of celebrating Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May month. India also celebrates Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May.

Many prior existing holidays dedicated to motherhood like the Mothering Sunday observed in the United Kingdom since the 16th century, became popular as Mother’s Day.

Countries adopted the date of Mother’s Day as per their local religious or historical significance. For example, several Catholic countries adopted the day as Virgin Mary Day. In Bolivia, Mother’s Day is celebrated on 27th May to commemorate the mothers of Bolivia in a historic 19th-century battle, in which they fought bravely to defend their house and children.

In some countries, like in Russia and Ukraine; International Women’s Day is becoming more popular every year.

How is Mother’s Day Celebrated?

Mother’s Day is celebrated to commemorate mothers for their love and affection that they bestow not only on their own families but also the society as well. They are honored for the hardship they go through, to look after their family and children.

Societies and individuals celebrate Mother’s Day in their own way. In the countries where the day has been linked with a historical event, it is celebrated collectively as a communal event. People gather and pay respect to mothers and women in whatever way possible.

Many countries, including India, have adapted to the more conservative kind celebration where individuals commemorate and thank their mothers by giving gifts and other valuables. Anything from a flower to expensive jewelry is gifted and people leave no stone unturned to keep their mothers happy.

Though Mother’s Day is a day to thank your mother for her love and hardship, it has also become hugely commercialized.

Conclusion

Mother’s Day is a significant day to thank your mother for her never-ending love and devotion for you and for the family. Remember that there is no other example of true love than your own mother. It is not necessary that you buy her gifts, at least spending the day with her, will make her happier.

FAQs on Paragraph on Mother’s Day in English

Few Lines on Importance of Mother’s Day??

Mother's Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family or individual, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on different days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May. It complements similar celebrations, largely pushed by commercial interests, honoring family members, such as Father's Day, Siblings Day, and Grandparents' Day.

While some countries have a multi-century history of a day to celebrate mothers, the modern American version of the holiday began in the United States in the early 20th century at the initiative of Anna Jarvis, who organized the first Mother's Day service of worship and celebration at Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church in Grafton, West Virginia, which serves as the International Mother's Day Shrine today. It is not directly related to the many traditional celebrations of mothers and motherhood that have existed throughout the world over thousands of years, such as the Greek cult to Cybele, the mother deity Rhea, the Roman festival of Hilaria, or the other Christian ecclesiastical Mothering Sunday celebration (associated with the image of Mother Church). However, in some countries, Mother's Day is still synonymous with these older traditions.

The American version of Mother's Day has been criticized for having become too commercialized. Jarvis herself, who began the celebration as a liturgical observance, regretted this commercialism and expressed that this was never her intention. In response, Constance Adelaide Smith successfully advocated for Mothering Sunday as a commemoration of a broader definition of motherhood in many other parts of the English-speaking world.
