Sant Ravidas Jayanti is reverently celebrated throughout India. Sant Ravidas Jayanti is celebrated as the birthday of Sant Ravidas. It is celebrated on a full moon day in the Hindu calendar month of Magha. The year 2020 marked the 643rd birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas. Guru Ravidas was a mystic poet born in an underprivileged family in Seer Govardhanpur village in Uttar Pradesh. Some verses created by Sant Ravidas are also included in Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhs. For this reason, Sant Ravidas is revered by Sikhs and his birthday is religiously observed. Sant Ravidas Jayanti is of larger significance for the people of the Ravidassia religion. Inspired by the teachings of Sant Ravidas, the Ravidasi sect came out of Sikhism in the 20th century.
Some special rituals are performed by the people celebrating Sant Ravidas Jayanti. On this day 'Amritbani Guru Ravidas Ji’ is read, which the holy book of Ravidassia religion is. Ravidas Jayanti is the birthday of Saint Ravidas Ji who lived during the period of Kabirdas. He was born in 1376 in Kanshi village to Santokh Dass and Kalsa Devi. Ravidas belonged to Harijan family and was treated as untouchable. Ravidas Ji was a great Saint, poet, philosopher, social reformer and follower of the God. Ravidas was one of the famous and leading stars of the nirguna sampradaya. Ravidas worked for the Hindu-Muslim unity. Ravidas wrote several hymns in praise of God. Ravidas devoted his entire life fighting against injustice based on caste and class. The preaching’s of Guru Ravidas are formed in 'Shabds', which are part of the Shri Guru Granth Sahib where 40 Shabds are directly of Shri Guru Ravidas Ji. This Shabds cannot be read alone, it has to be combined with the teaching of other gurus teachings also. Attempts were made to remove the 40 Shabds from the book and to make it an individual book by well known priests, who were assassinated. The sign for the Ravidassia community is 'Har' which refers to 'ALL'. Ravidas was followed by many wealthy Kings and Queen but never accepted any wealthy gifts.

At that time, Guru Ji was feeling very sad and helpless. But, even in this hour, he did not lose his restraint and started praying to God for the peace of his father’s soul. Then there was a massive storm. The water of the river begins flowing in the opposite direction. Then suddenly, a massive wave of water came near the dead body and absorbed all the remains in it. It is said that since then, the river Ganga is flowing in the opposite direction.
Death
Seeing Guru Ravidas Ji’s truth, humanity, love towards God, goodwill, his followers were increasing day by day. On the other hand, some Brahmins were planning to kill him. Some of Ravidas’s opponents organized a meeting, he held a meeting away from the village and invited Guruji in it.
Guru Ji already understood the trick of those people. Guruji goes there and starts the session. By mistake, their partner Bhalla Nath is killed in place of Guru Ji. After a while, when Guru Ji blows a conch in his room, everyone is taken aback. They were unfortunate to see their partner dead and go to Guruji with a sad heart.
Followers of Ravidas Ji believe that after 120 or 126 years, Ravidas Ji gives up his body on his own. According to people, he breathed his last in Varanasi in 1540 AD.
